One More Chance

Book 1 of the Meaningful Series

In a world of hurt and mistrust, can Aveline make the choice to trust Dustin?

Aveline has never trusted men. Not after what happened to her in high school. So when she meets Dustin on the first day of college and he shows interest, she avoids him as much as possible. She can't risk having her heart broken. But as she gets to know Dustin, she can't help but wonder if she was wrong about men, or if Dustin is not who he says he is.

Dustin is intrigued by Aveline. There's something about her that makes him want to get to know her. As he gets to know her, he realizes that she doesn't trust men, and she won't open up to him no matter how hard he tries. When he finally is able to get through to her, he realizes that she has wounds that run deep. He also realizes that he wants to pursue her no matter what, even if she pushes him away. He will do everything in his power to get through to her and show her that he can be trusted. Even if he has secrets of his own.

EXCERPT

“Love?” He asked after a bit.

“Hmmm?” I looked up at him, his gaze was full of love and tenderness. He pulled me close, whispering in my ear, “I can’t wait to start our life together.”

“Me too.”

Why I wrote it…

If you have read the About Patricia page you probably know some of my story and how it impacted my writing. If not, feel free to check it out!

One Last Chance was inspired during a period in my high school years where I felt deeply lost and in search for love. Our main character, Aveline, resembled me during that time. Her thoughts were scrambled, they did not make any sense, and she felt as if the world was against her.

That is the mind of one who is experiencing deep depression. It is a very dark perception of the world, but they feel as if there is no one who loves them.

Dustin represents those who are desperately loving women like Aveline but cannot comprehend the sequence of their thoughts. It is not Dustin’s words that convince Aveline of his love for her, but instead his steady presence through it all.

If you read, One Last Chance, you might think Aveline to be frustrating and utterly stupid, but in reality she is like many of us who are in search for love.

I wrote this book when I was in my sophomore year of high school. It is a book that is near to my heart because it expresses many of my own frustrations and anxieties that I had back then. The writing may not be as developed or as advanced as my recent books, but I would like to keep it this way so that my readers may get a glimpse of the reality of a saddened heart.

“The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched.

They must be felt with the heart.”
