“He stopped breathing. He didn’t want to scare her away. He watched as her features showed him her indecisiveness and… longing. He felt surprise sink in, unsure of what it meant.

Her eyes suddenly flew open and were replaced with a decisive and cold look.

Suddenly, she wrenched away from his grasp, ‘No!’ She mouthed harshly, almost angrily. ‘Don’t’

Why I wrote it…

Like most girls, ever since I was little, I dreamed of one day finding my Prince Charming.

I was enamored with fairy tales and happily-ever-afters. So much so that I endlessly read as many re-tellings as I could possibly get my hands on. Some were satisfying others weren’t.

As I grew older, I realized that what bothered me the most about these stories is that they weren’t real. There was no Prince Charming, no lady in destress, and most certainly no happily-ever-after.

Yet, I was determined to not let that affect my writing… but it did. So, I did my research. I tried thinking of something real that would show me that a happily-ever-after was real. That there was a damsel in distress ready to be rescued. That there was such a thing as a Prince Charming that would do anything possible to rescue the damsel in distress.

And I found it.

I found it in the least likely place —>The story of Christianity.

Prince Charming was Christ. He is constantly pursuing the Church for centuries and centuries to the point of sacrificing His own life without asking anything in return.

The damsel in distress was the Church - us. Yet, she is the most unorthodox damsel in distress. She wants to be loved, but constantly craves the freedom that the world offers and rejects her One True Love.

The happily-ever-after was the Resurrection and creation of the Church. It exists. It is also an unorthodox happily-ever-after. It seems that even after the union of Christ and the Church there are constant scandals and divisions, yet it has prevailed.

The Prince & the Girl shows the resemblance of Christ’s love for the Church. It’s not perfect and it could never truly represent how much Christ loves us, but I hope to show my readers a piece of what it means to be truly loved.

“Real Love is unconditional. Any love with limitations is as fraudulent as the person placing them.”
